What is Life Coaching?
Life coaching is a process used to help you get from where you are to where you want to be and helps you get what you want out of life (even if you don’t know what that is yet!)
At its basic, life coaching will help you achieve a goal in any area of your life through focused and organized action using the key component of accountability to measure progress and make adjustments.
Life coaching, at its best, will cause a shift in your perception of yourself and how you relate to the world so that any change you want to make in any area of your life is achievable and sustainable long after the coaching relationship had ended. A Life Coach helps you gain greater awareness into and empowerment over how you think, feel, and act. This results in your living at the cause of your life instead of its effect.
-
How does Life Coaching differ from therapy?
Simply put, therapy is problem-focused and aims to help clients function better. Coaching is solution-focused and helps clients function optimally–taking their lives from good to great!
In therapy, the therapist's typical function is to help a client "fix" a problem. The therapist-client relationship is often based on an expert-patient model. The focus is usually on helping a client deal with the past.
In coaching, emphasis is placed on the client’s strengths. Coaches don’t see a client as someone who needs to be “fixed” but rather needs guidance to tap into his/her own wisdom. Coaches believe the client is the "expert" in his/her life and partners with the client during the coaching process. The focus is on where the client is today, and where he/she wants to go.

Who works with a Life Coach?
Anyone looking to change, enhance, or optimize any aspect of his/her personal, professional, or spiritual life.
-
How do I know if I need a Life Coach?
While you don’t necessarily need a Life Coach, life coaching can help you create a richer and more fulfilling life.
If you are feeling unhappy or dissatisfied with a particular area of your life, if you are experiencing a road block in achieving a personal goal, if you have achieved your goal but still feel unfulfilled, if you have a dream you want to work toward–whatever it may be–life coaching can help you get there.
-
What can I expect to gain from working with a Life Coach?
You will gain greater focus, clarity, confidence, energy, and empowerment to achieve your goals. Life coaching will cause a shift in how you perceive yourself and how you relate to the world so that positive change is sustainable long after the coaching partnership has concluded. You will also notice that positive change in one aspect of your life often spills over to the other areas as well. The happier you are, the more you attract positive experiences into your life.
-
How long do people generally work with a Life Coach?
The number of sessions depends on your needs and desires. However, to experience the most effective results it is suggested that you make an initial three-month commitment. At the end of the three months, progress is evaluated and options can be discussed if you wish to continue the coaching process.
-
Can coaching sessions be done over the phone?
Yes. People new to coaching are sometimes surprised to learn that, most commonly, coaching is done over the phone. Don’t be concerned about your proximity to me. I coach people all over the country–we don’t need to be in the same time zone or even on the same continent!
-
Is coaching over the phone as effective as face-to-face coaching?
Absolutely! In fact, in my experience coaching by phone is often more effective than face-to-face. Coaching via telephone allows you to be "in your own head" and not unconsciously tuned into the coach's body language and facial expressions. You will be better able to connect to, and stay focused on, your own inner wisdom. Coaching via telephone allows both you and me to stay connected to our intuition resulting in a richer, more productive exchange.
